Winter League Rd1 2009 Race Report  E-mail
The first round of the 2009 Winter Series brought us to Moneyscalp Woods, in Co.Down. The track was very similar to last years Round 2 track with only a few small changes made. The wind was blowing hard all weekend but everyone still was as excited as ever to race.
Most of the team that were racing turned up on Saturday for some pre race practice. With the confusion where to go in some sections due to lack of tape, a lot of different lines were rode, unfortunately for some there sneaky lines were market out. Luckily around half way threw the day the Chain Reaction Crew arrived and finally the track was taped out. With less confusion proper practice went under way. For some new lines were picked for others it stayed the same, but by the end of the day the track was riding well and everyone was very excited to race the next day.
On Sunday morning, everybody rose an hour earlier than usual with a very early 8am sign on. Practice was hard there was 190 riders pretty much all trying to ride the same course at the same time. So I am sure now some wished they came on Saturday.
Race time came along pretty quickly, heres how it all went.
Under 14:
3rd place went to our very own Adam Tarbett with a 1.27, I managed to put my two worst runs as my race runs but this leaves me eager as ever to win the next round. 2nd Place went to Ruben Keddle with a 1.22 from Rostrevor, and 1st place went to local pinner Angus Fyffe.
Under 16:
3rd Place went to our very own Dan Sheridan, similar situation to myself, 2nd was to Chain Reaction Cycles Kyle Rimmer with an impressive time of 1.13 just 1 second up on Dan. 1st place went to Kipper with an even more impressive time of 1.11 which would have placed him 1st also in the Juniors Category.
Juniors:
Flow racings Gavin Kelly finished 3rd place with a time of 1 14 and a podium in his 1st race as a Junior. 2nd place went to Greenoils Davy Graham with a time of 1 13.
1st place went to Epics Greg Callaghan with a time of 1 13 also and beating Davy by 015 of a second. Unfortunately for Flow Racings Gavin Carroll his new bike has not arrived yet so he decided to do some bike testing. He practiced on Damos Nomad, raced his 1st run on an 0range 224 and his second run on Dolans Socom, despite all that he managed to finish 7th place with a time of 1.17
Masters:
Damo was flying all weekend and finished 12th place in a very tough 24 man contest. Epics Mark Tiernan finished 1st place in his 1st year down from Elites, 2nd place went to CRCs Dale McMullan and 3rd to Ian McIntyre once again of CRC with times all within 1 second. Well Done to all.
Supervets:
With only 2 Super Vets signing on, Flows Tom Sheridan took 1st place to TC Racings Tom Clogher with an impressive 12 second margin.
Elites:
1st place went to Bike Docks Colin Ross with a time of 1 06, 2nd Place went to Dan Wolfe of Flow Racing, after practicing on his 4X bike Daniel then decided his downhill bike would suit the course better. In his 1st race in the Elite category David Kennan finished a very impressive 3rd place with a time of 1 08 just 2 seconds of the win.
Well done to the Chain Reaction Crew for hosting yet another fantastic event. The next round brings us to Ballinascorny Woods for IMBRCs first even downhill race. In 2 weeks time, looking forward to seeing you all there.
